Haden Board Workshop Programme

"Richard Nelson has successfully helped us to review and refocus our positioning in the market."

From Issue Eight of our newsletter.

Haden Building Management, a subsidiary of Balfour Beatty plc., is repositioning itself from engineering maintenance to be a facilities management company for the private and public sectors. Already among the top ten facilities management companies in the UK, Haden operates major contracts for large private organisations and central government ministries, delivering a range of services from security and gardening to reception and cleaning.

Earlier this year, Nelson Consulting were asked to assist with the design, development and facilitation of a Board Workshop Programme. The overall purpose of the Programme was to review progress in repositioning the Company and to shape the initiatives necessary to take the company forward to achieve its desired position. Our approach involved:

  • conducting diagnostic meetings with the directors,
  • designing and developing the Workshop Programme,
  • facilitating the Workshop, and
  • collating the outputs and providing recommendations for implementation.

Some of the major topics addressed involved the alignment of the operating divisions’ objectives with corporate strategy, assessing the implications of the corporate strategy to determine the requirements for implementation, and identifying opportunities for/constraints to business growth. The Board also considered the leadership needed to progress change and experienced some team building (see above). Carol Chapman, Organisation and Personal Development Director, says: “We are in transformation. Richard Nelson has successfully helped us to review and refocus our positioning in the market. We are now driving the initiatives produced in our Workshop.”
